Jr. Fair Showcase – Say Cheese!

Fulton County Junior Fair Exhibitors — Say Cheese!

We know 2020 has been a crazy year for everyone. In lieu of having still projects on display at the Fair and our community walking through the animal barns, we want to highlight our Junior Fair Exhibitors through an online gallery – The 2020 Junior Fair Showcase. This will be a great way for our community to see the efforts of our youth.

To do this, we need all Junior Fair exhibitors to submit a photo of themselves with their project. We realize some youth have more than one project, however, feel free to be creative and showcase as many as you can in one photo, or select your favorite.

Once we receive the photos, a slide show/video will be produced for each 4-H Club and FFA Chapter and will be posted on the Fulton County Fair’s website. Along with the video, we’ll list each member of that club/chapter, their age, parent’s name, and their projects.

So, get those camera’s out and Say Cheese!  Deadline for photo submission is August 2.

Please see the participation release and instructions to submit your photo below.

Fulton County Fair to hold Junior Fair only in 2020.

Press Release: June 17, 2020

Fulton County Fair to hold Junior Fair in 2020.

Fulton County, Ohio   On June 16, 2020 after much deliberation and review of current state and CDC guidelines and restrictions due to Covid-19, the Fulton County Fair Board voted to hold only the Junior Fair in 2020.  While this decision was one of the hardest decisions to make, the Board appreciates the input and guidance of the Fulton County Health Department, County Commissioners, and Sheriff’s Department.  The Board is also working closely with the Ohio State University Extension in Fulton County, Jr. Fair Board, and Livestock Committee to offer the safest and best experience possible for our Jr. Fair Youth.

Key factors in arriving at this decision include the guidelines set forth and the possible repercussions if not followed and the safety of our community, participants, and volunteers. Anyone who has attended the Fair knows the crowds this great event draws – between 20,000 – 85,000 per day.  The task of ensuring social distancing at these numbers would be nearly impossible thus creating the need to limit fair attendance every day. The grandstands would be limited to 1,800 spectators, with no or very limited track seating. Vendors and merchants would be required to follow all current regulations and guidelines – adding an additional cost for operation while having a substantially smaller crowd.  These tasks would require an army of volunteers, which in the last few years have seen a decrease in numbers.

As one of the largest events in Northwest Ohio the board felt the responsibility to act wisely to keep the community safe and not add additional stress on our first responders and dedicated volunteers.  The Board felt strongly to put the efforts in supporting our youth through the Jr. Fair.  Many of the details for Jr. Fair need to be worked out and will be announced soon.  At this point however, the Jr. Fair will be open to youth with animal exhibitions and their immediate family members, Fulton County Jr. Fair Advisors including 4-H Advisors and Agricultural Education Teachers, and other pre-designated volunteers.  An auction will be conducted. The length an animal can stay on grounds is still being discussed as well as show dates and weigh-in times.

The Board understands and shares the disappointment this decision will make for the community, but also recognizes that the enjoyment of the Fair so many have come to love and look forward to is not attainable in the current situation.  So, it is with the same determination and commitment that has fueled this Fair for over 160 years that the Board will move forward in planning a great Fair to be enjoyed by all in 2021.

By visiting the Fairgrounds, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

Thank you for supporting your local Fair! We strive to provide a safe facility for our community members.  Please help us by doing your part to follow the current State Health Orders.

Thank you and Stay “Fair Strong”!

Jr. Fair Tag-In/Tattoo Events Cancelled

As we are making our way through the planning stages for the 2020 Fulton County Fair, the decision was made to identify Jr. Fair animals on weigh-in day vs prior to Fair at a Tag-in event.  Therefore, the June 6 and August 1 Fulton County Junior Fair Tag-In/Tattoo events have been Cancelled.  This includes June 6: roaster rabbits, market goats, market hogs, market and born and raised lambs, and feeder calves and August 1: fryer rabbits.

Junior Fair will identifying Fulton County Jr. Fair market animals on weigh-in day at the species scales (except for goats, this will be determined mid summer).  DUNF forms for all species will be collected at the respective species Fair check-in scales and not at the vet check due to needing to write IDs on the DUNF forms and they won’t be assigned at the vet check yet.

Market Rabbits: Jr. Fair will write the exhibitor’s back tag number in the rabbit’s ear with a sharpie at Fair check-in to avoid confusion on the show table.  This means no tattoos will be required for market rabbits in 2020 only!

Market Goats:  An email will be sent to market goat exhibitors with more information later  in the summer when we have a plan in place for goats. Please hold off tattooing market goats with a permanent ID of exhibitor’s choice.

Market Hogs, Feeder Calves, Market and Born and Raised Lambs:  Jr. Fair will tag these animals with a Fulton County Junior Fair issued EID tag when the animal arrives for weigh in on September 3.  Exhibitors are not responsible for getting their own permanent ID for these animals.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Kayla Miller – miller.5287@osu.edu or Neal Callender – 419-467-0537, Sr. Fair Board Member and Livestock Sale Committee Chair.

2020 Fair Update – May 2

May 2, 2020

Dear Fulton County Fair Fans,

I want to update you on the status of the 163rd Fulton County Fair in the midst of Covid-19.  Our hope and plan are to have our Fair.  What it will look like including judging, entertainment, vendors, merchants, grandstand events, etc., we just do not know yet.

We are monitoring the CDC guidelines as well as working with the Fulton County Health & Sheriff’s Department.  This decision is not ours alone.  We are committed to providing the best experience we can in an environment that puts the health and safety of our community members first.  In this ever changing, uncertain time we are working with individuals and organizations to explore workable, safe options.  Our goal is to have a rough plan sketched out in June.  Until then, we ask for your patience but more importantly, that you look after your neighbors, support the small businesses in your community and extend patience and kindness to others.

Sincerely,

Dennis Wyse

President, Fulton County Fair Board

2020 Junior Fair Schedule and Guidelines – Original Post – See 2020 Jr. Fair

2020 – what a year of new discoveries.  As we move through the process of conducting a Junior Fair only in 2020, we appreciate everyone’s patience and willingness to work inside the guidelines. We want to acknowledge the efforts of the Ohio State University Extension Fulton County and the Fulton County Fair Livestock Sale Committee – there have been countless meetings, hard decisions to be made, and tons of questions to be asked.  We also appreciated the guidance and support of the Fulton County Health Department, Sheriff’s Department, and all our first responders.

Our Fulton County Jr. Fair Advisors including 4-H Advisors and Agricultural Education Teachers, have gone above and beyond. Your leadership in this challenging time has been appreciated beyond measure.  And to our Junior Fair Youth and parents – Congratulations! – for pushing through with hard work and determination to make the best of things and your willingness to learn and grow.  We look forward to highlighting each of you in our 2020 Junior Fair Online Showcase – more information coming soon.

As previously stated, all Still Projects will be judged prior to Fair. 3. Will the restrooms and showers be open.
  4. Yes. We will also have hand sanitizer and wash stations throughout the grounds.
  5. What guidelines do we need to follow for the health and safety of everyone.
  6. As of July 10, 2020, masks are recommended but not required, this is subject to change. It is important to follow the CDC and State of Ohio’s guidelines for physical distancing, good hygiene – washing hands, using hand sanitizer, etc.
  7. Can I wash my animal at the Fair or bring grooming benches/racks?
